Kaaren Arsenault

In  May 2014, Salt Spring Island unexpectedly lost a truly beautiful person, Kaaren Arsenault.  She was loved and will be missed as a mother, a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, co-worker, and dear friend.  Kaaren was a fabulous, creative gardener. This is reflected in both her garden at home and at her work site.

For more than 25 years Kaaren helped create and maintain the gardens at the “Castle”, on Beddis Road.  This property includes the remnants of an orchard planted about 1885 by Samuel Beddis, and has been featured in many past Apple Festival tours.  Apple Festival  participants loved to tour around the fabulous waterfront garden and orchard, as this was the only time in the year, when the public was able to see the Castle.

Kaaren had a ridiculous, irreverent and memorable sense of humour.  She was the definition of “small but mighty”. She has left us a legacy of great gardens, of caring,  of forgiveness and of love.

She will be in our hearts, forever.

A Celebration of Life was held for Kaaren on Salt Spring Island, on June 21st from  2:00 – 6:00 PM at Beaver Point Hall. (1365 Beaver Pt. Rd).
