Herb Burnett.

What can one say about Herb that hasn’t already been said. Loved by many, and a pain in the ass to a whole lot more. Always ready with a quick smile and joke, but also always ready to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it.

As the Government agent here on Saltspring, he often went above and beyond what most people would think a government agent would do.

He was also big on volunteering.  The Fall Fair, the Apple Festival, Literacy Society, beginners gold, the food bank, the local soup kitchen. All these and more benefitted from Herb’s willingness to give of himself, just for the pleasure of helping.

Herb was the first Money Man for the Apple Festival starting in 1999.

He also played a big part in the local chapter of A.A. He manned the help phone line especially on the days of the year when most needed, and was instrumental in establishing the A.A. Jamboree, which has become a yearly event here on Salt Spring Island.

Herb: a man for all people. He is missed.
